Burlesque dancing is back. But this time the patrons aren't naval officers on leave from war. The audience is young, trendy and at least half are female. And these women love watching the art of undressing. Burlesque dancing was popular from the 19th Century until the fifties when pinup icons like Betty Page graced the stage with her short strip/ theater performances.
Now burlesque is a grassroots affair. Dancers make their own costumes, produce their own shows and market themselves. Creativity and passion are the driving forces behind this scene. No one is making a killing but still Burlesque shows sell out in major cities across North America.
